Tablet devices can be utilized with Open Dental mobile apps and the Open Dental Program. Device requirements and compatibility vary by intended use.

Mobile Apps
Open Dental offers several mobile apps when signed up for corresponding eServices. Only Android and iOS devices that meet minimum requirements are supported. These apps are not compatible with Windows tablets.

ODTouch 25
ODTouch 25 is the chairside companion app for Open Dental. The app lets you manage appointments, treatment, and more from a tablet-optimized interface. See ODTouch Feature for more information.

ODMobile
ODMobile is the app that lets you stay informed while away from the office. Check your appointment schedule, send prescriptions, text patients, and more from your phone. See ODMobile Feature for more information.

Legacy Mobile Apps
The following are legacy apps that have been replaced by newer releases. While these apps are still available for download, we recommend using the updated apps instead. Apps require a subscription to the corresponding eServices.

Open Dental Program
A Windows tablet device can be used to run the full Open Dental program. Offices may wish to use these tablets as Kiosk devices for patient forms. The Open Dental program is not compatible with Android or iOS devices.
Requirements:
- Tablets must run a supported version of Windows. See Computer Requirements.
- Must have a resolution of at least 1280x768.
Before using a Windows Tablet as a Kiosk device, consider the following:
- Due to limited graphic capabilities, devices may run slower.
- Screen size and configuration. On some tablets, the program may not take up the full screen, which may cause text to appear very small. Orientation may also shift when moving the tablet.
- On-screen keyboard should be undocked. Docked keyboards may cause windows to resize, causing viewability and scrolling issues.
- Tablets need to be in tablet mode for the touch keyboard to automatically appear when using the kiosk.
- Tablets are very portable and can easily be lost or misplaced in a reception area setting.
Remote Software & Security
There are software products available for remote connection to one of your office computers over an iPad or Android. The Remote Access page covers some of these products, but there are others.

Unsupported Devices
Android
Android is not a 'controlled ecosystem'. With Android, you can get new devices with old software that will not work well.
- Fire tablets, which run Fire OS, are not compatible with eClipboard or ODTouch.
- Android 4.4 KitKat
- Vasoun brand Android tablets are not compatible with eClipboard or ODTouch.
Windows
eClipboard was formerly supported for Windows tablet devices. These devices are no longer supported as of September 2023.
ODTouch and ODMobile have never been supported on Windows devices.
iOS/Apple
These Apple devices are considered obsolete, and therefore do not work with Open Dental apps.
