Open Dental has tools to help you manage unearned income and prepayments.

Unearned income, or payments that haven't been attached to procedures or adjustments, is clearly noted at the top of the Account Module. Unearned income is normally due to prepayments or overpayments.

Allocate Unearned Tool

In the Account Module, select positive adjustments or procedures, click the Payment dropdown, Allocate Unearned.

The Allocate Unearned tool is available from the Account Module and can be used to quickly attach income to existing procedures, both completed and treatment planned. After selecting procedures, an income transfer is created to allocate income to the correct procedures.

Treatment Plan Prepayments

Payments can be attached to treatment planned procedures.

This moves payments to a Hidden Splits area, so there is not an account credit indicating an overpayment. Once treatment is completed, the payment is automatically moved to the account and allocated to the appropriate procedure.

Other Prepayments

Prepayments can also be added to Open Dental without attaching them to a treatment planned procedure.

Unearned Types can be customized in Open Dental to help manage these prepayments, which allows you to see at a glance what unearned income may be associated to.
