Schedule a Patient With an Existing Appointment
- Go to the Appointments Module.
- Select the patient's appointment.
- On the toolbar, click the Make Recall button.
- To schedule an entire family, use the dropdown and click Make Family Recall.
- The appointments are added to the Pinboard on the right.
- In the Openings in View area, under the Pinboard, enter date/time restrictions or search by provider as needed and click the Search button to update available openings.
- Select the day the patient would like to schedule.
- For each appointment, click and drag to move to the requested time.
Schedule a Patient Without an Existing Apointment
- Select the patient and go the Appointments Module.
- On the toolbar, click the Make Recall button.
- To schedule an entire family, use the dropdown and click Make Family Recall.
- The appointments are added to the Pinboard on the right.
- In the Openings in View area, under the Pinboard, enter date/time restrictions or search by provider as needed and click the Search button to update available openings.
- Select the day the patient would like to schedule.
- For each appointment, click and drag to move to the requested time.
Schedule Multiple Patients from the Recall List
- Go to the Appointments Module.
- In the toolbar, click the Lists button.
- In the Appointment Lists window, click the Recall button.
- In the Recall List window, select the patient.
- Select an option at the bottom of the window:
- Sched Patient: Choose this option to schedule an appointment for a single patient.
- Sched Family: Choose this option to schedule appointments for multiple members of the same family.
- Comm: Choose this option if you are unable to reach the patient to record a reminder in the Recall List and create a Commlog.
- If creating an appointment, the Recall List is minimized and appointments are added to the Pinboard in the Appointments Module.
- In the Openings in View area, under the Pinboard, enter date/time restrictions or search by provider as needed and click the Search button to update available openings.
- Select the day the patient would like to schedule.
- For each appointment, click and drag to move to the requested time.
Schedule Recalls Marked As ASAP
- Go to the Appointments Module.
- In the toolbar, click the Lists button.
- In the Appointment Lists window, click the ASAP button.
- In the ASAP List window, click the Unscheduled Recalls tab.
- Set filters such as recall due date or number of reminders.
- Right-click the patient.
- In the menu, click Make Appointment.
- The appointment is added to the Pinboard in the Appointments Module.
- To find specific openings, to the left the Pinboard, click the Search button.
- In the Openings in View area, under the Pinboard, enter date/time restrictions or search by provider as needed and click the Search button to update available openings.
- Select the day the patient would like to schedule.
- Click and drag the appointment to move to the requested time.
Additional Details
- When using the recall buttons (in the Appointments Module, Recall List, or Appointments for Patient window), appointments will automatically include all recall procedures assigned to the patient along with the special recall if they are due on or before the same date
- Appointments are only created when a patient is assigned a Special Recall Type (e.g., prophy or perio).
- By default, when scheduling a recall for a single patient, Open Dental automatically searches for schedule openings after the Recall Due Date with the patient's assigned Secondary Provider, or Primary Provider if no Secondary is assigned. The calendar moves to the first available date. Additional dates are listed in Openings in View.
- By default, when scheduling recall for a family, Open Dental automatically searches for scheduled openings after the last Recall Due Date for all family members and searches for openings with all family members' assigned providers. The calendar moves to the first available date. Additional dates are listed in Openings in View.
