How to Use Lab Cases

Learn how to create and manage Lab Cases by viewing an interactive guide or step-by-step instructions.

How to create a Lab Case for a scheduled or planned appointment

  1. Select the patient and go to the Chart Module.
  2. In the Progress Notes, double-click to edit the appointment.
    • For a Planned Appointment, click the Planned Appointments tab to the right of the Tooth Chart. Double-click the Planned Appointment.
  3. In the Edit Appointment window, click the Lab button.
  4. In the Select Lab Case window, click the New button.
  5. In the Edit Lab Case window, select the Laboratory where the case is being sent.
  6. Enter the Lab Case information (e.g., fee, invoice number, due date).
  7. Enter the instructions for the Lab Case.
  8. To create a Lab Slip, click New Slip. Instructions from the Lab Case are automatically populated in the Lab Slip.
  9. To send the Lab Slip, in the Fill Sheet window, click Print or Email.
  10. Click OK to exit the Fill Sheet window.
  11. To set the date/time that the lab was sent, in the Edit Lab Case window, click the Now button next to Sent or manually enter the date/time.
  12. Click Save to create the Lab Case and exit the Edit Lab Case window. The Lab Case is attached to the appointment.
  13. In the Edit Appointment window, click Save.

How to create a Lab Case for an appointment that has not been scheduled

  1. Select the patient and go to the Chart Module.
  2. On the toolbar, click the LabCase button.
  3. In the Lab Case window, select the Laboratory where the case is being sent.
  4. Enter the Lab Case information (e.g., fee, invoice number, due date).
  5. Enter the instructions for the Lab Case.
  6. To create a Lab Slip, click New Slip. Instructions from the Lab Case are automatically populated in the Lab Slip.
  7. To send the Lab Slip, in the Fill Sheet window, click Print or Email.
  8. Click OK to exit the Fill Sheet window.
  9. To set the date/time that the lab was sent, in the Edit Lab Case window, click Now next to Sent or manually enter the date/time.
  10. Click Save to create the Lab Case and exit the Edit Lab Case window.
  11. Schedule the appointment or create a Planned Appointment.
  12. In the Edit Appointment window, click the Lab button.
  13. In the Select Lab Case window, the Lab Case is automatically attached to the appointment. Click OK.
  14. In the Edit Appointment window, click Save.

How to track and manage Lab Cases

How to view a summary of Lab Cases for upcoming appointments:

  1. Go to the Appointments Module.
  2. On the calendar, select the day or week.
  3. Under the Pinboard, review the statuses of the Lab Cases for the day or week selected.
  4. To view detailed information, click the Lab Cases button.
  5. In the Lab Cases window, use the filters to narrow down dates or include unattached and completed Lab Cases and click the Refresh button.
  6. Double-click a Lab Case to open the Edit Lab Case window.
  7. In the Edit Lab Case window, click the Now button to add a lab tracking status or manually enter the date/time of the status.
  8. Click Save to exit the Edit Lab Case window.

How to track and update Lab Cases:

  1. In the Main Menu, go to Lists.
  2. Click Lab Cases.
  3. In the Lab Cases window, use the filters to narrow down dates or include unattached and completed Lab Cases and click the Refresh button.
  4. Double-click a Lab Case to open the Edit Lab Case window.
  5. In the Edit Lab Case window, click the Now button to add a lab tracking status or manually enter the date/time of the status.
  6. Click Save.
