Granting EPCS Privileges to Providers

To prescribe controlled substances using Electronic Prescriptions (eRx), a provider must be authorized for EPCS privileges by an EPCS administrator. The administrator can start this process once a provider's identity proofing (IDP) has been completed and approved. Both the administrator and provider will need to login to eRx to complete the process.

EPCS Administrator (cannot be the provider getting privileges):

  1. Log in to Open Dental.
  2. Click eRx to open the interface, then click the Admin tab, Prescriber Registration and EPCS Set-up.

  1. Under Authorize EPCS Privileges, click Select next to the prescriber name, then click Save.
  2. Log out of eRx and Open Dental.

EPCS Prescriber:

  1. Log in to Open Dental.
  2. Click eRx to open the interface, then click the Admin tab, Prescriber Registration and EPCS Set-up.

  1. Under Finalize EPCS Authorized Privileges, click Select next to your name.
  2. Click 'Get one time passcode'.

  1. Enter your Verizon UIS password and click Continue.

  1. Choose the method of receiving one-time passcodes. Then click the button to send the passcode to your device (e.g. Text Me).
  2. Check your code device for the 6-digit passcode. Enter it then click Continue.
  3. If the signing is successful, your name will appear in the provider list with Yes for EPCS Activated.
